Why is Job-Embedded Professional Development Important?

The Arkansas Rules Governing Professional Development outline, and, in fact, encourage professional development that compliments the traditional professional development model of workshops and conferences.

The Rules recognize study groups, learning teams, action research, and even individually-guided professional development plans as accepted methods of fulfilling the 60 hour requirement.

Job-embedded approaches are effective at sustaining learning that occurs in workshops or other, more traditional professional development activities.

Job-embedded models of professional development sustain learning by focusing directly on the needs and challenges that affect student performance, as well as tapping into strengths educators possess and can share with their colleagues.
